Drivers can expect an increase in traffic enforcement this weekend along the I-95 corridor.
Almost two dozen First State police departments and multiple state agencies are participating in the “Drive to Save Lives” campaign. It’s a coordinated effort with 14 other states along I-95 and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
Delaware will increase the number of traffic officers along I-95 and in other parts of the state covering about 96 miles of highway.
They will be looking for a wide range of traffic offenses including distracted driving, impaired driving and speeding.
A Delaware State Police press release calls I-95 one of the deadliest highways in the country.
And according to the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration there were 119 traffic deaths in Delaware in 2017—32 involving a driver illegally impaired by alcohol and 33 involving speeding.
The increased traffic enforcement will start this Friday and will continue into Sunday.
