High bacteria levels prompt swimming advisory at Rehoboth Beach

Update: The advisory was lifted at 3 p.m. Friday.

A swimming advisory is in place for Rehoboth Beach after state environmental officials found high levels of bacteria near Rehoboth Ave, according to the city's Facebook page.

Delaware’s Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control says excessive rain can push wildlife or domestic pet waste into water, causing an increase in bacteria levels.

The department says they’ve collected water samples from the area and they will alert the public when bacteria levels return to normal.
