Half dozen First State teams to play in 2015 Slam Dunk

Even more of Delaware’s high school basketball stars will take to the court at this year’s Slam Dunk to the Beach tournament.

Organizers announced this week that six local schools – up from five last year - will participate in the tourney this December. A pair of 2015 state tournament semi-finalists, Sanford and Mount Pleasant, top the list.  It also includes tourney host Cape Henlopen, Appoquinimink, Dover, and St. Elizabeth's high schools.

National teams participating will be announced in June.

State officials revived Slam Dunk to the Beach last year after an 11-year hiatus.  It previously featured star NBA players like LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Carmelo Anthony highlight the tournament.

Organizers say it its first year back the tournament drew more than 10,000 visitors and estimate it brought in a total of $1 million to the local economy.

Three-day passes are on sale now for the tournament returning to Lewes December 27-29.
