The Hagley Museum and Library’s annual craft returns this weekend.

The fair is now in its 41st year.

“The first craft fair was held in 1978 and it was a textile fair and it was held in celebration of the textile mills along the Brandywine River. And the very first fair was held in the building that is now our visitors center, which was built in 1814 and was originally a cotton mill,” said Bonnie Wirth, group tour manager for the Hagley Museum and Library.

She says this year’s craft fair is Saturday, October 19 and Sunday, October 20 - with the theme "From Artists to Alpacas.”

“This year, we will have 60 craft artisans, which is more than we’ve ever had. We’ve done some creative things and we’re able to add some more this year.," said Wirth. "In addition to that, we have an outdoor specialty food market and that has 14 vendors. And those are foods that you would buy to take home with you like jams and jellies and oils and vinegars.”

She notes the fair also features artistans that visitors have come to expect, “And it includes, jewelry and textiles and wood and pottery and glass and so much more.”

Wirth adds those artisans will be joined by the Painted Sky Alpaca Farm and Fiber Mill are also coming to the two-day event.  They’re from Earlville, Maryland and offer handcrafted items from alpaca fibers.

More info about the craft fair is available here.
