Hagley Museum & Library craft fair turns 40 years old

Hagley Museum and Library
The annual Hagley Craft Fair hits a milestone this year. 2018 marks the 40th edition of the event that brings together regional artists to exhibit and sell their hand-crafted items.

Hagley Museum and Library’s annual craft fair is celebrating its 40th anniversary. The fair is this weekend, October 20th and 21st.

Hagley’s marketing manager Jessica Eisenbrey says the event originally started in 1978 as a textile fair.

“And it was meant to really celebrate the history of textiles on the Brandywine. A lot of people might not realize but our visitor center here at Hagley, the building where you check in at when you come into the Museum, Henry Clay Mill, was actually a cotton mill in the 1800’s. So we started this Fair 40 years ago now,” Eisenbrey said.

Eisenbrey says the fair now features artists specializing in jewelry, textiles, glass, wood, pottery and more - 55 artists are scheduled to be at the fair.

“Now we have artists who specialize in jewelry, textiles, glass, wood and pottery. And this year we have a blacksmith coming from Maryland; he makes wine racks, candle holders, tables...things like that,” said Eisenbrey.

Tickets are $5, but Hagley members and children under 6 pay no admission.
