Moyer charter school leadership seeks to avoid school's closure

For the third time in three years, Delaware education officials are poised to close a charter school at least in part because of poor academic performance.
But leaders of the Maurice J. Moyer Academic Institute are clinging to a glimmer of hope that they will avoid the same fate as the Pencader Business & Finance Charter High School and the Reach Academy for Girls when the State Board of Education holds its monthly meeting on Sept. 18. Next week, sea level rise and how to deal with the looming issues it presents in the coming years and decades returns to the spotlight. For the second straight fall, the state holds Sea Level Rise Awareness week.
Delaware Public Media contributor Jon Hurdle has been covering the First State’s efforts to assess Delaware’s vulnerability to rising seas and the state’s response.

In this week's Enlighten Me, we look a bit more closely at the world of journalism, specifically investigative journalism, with a Delaware native who’s career has been dedicated to the craft.
Charles Lewis, a Newark High and Univ. of Delaware grad, is founder of the Center for Public Integrity and other similar non-profits focused on digging for stories you don’t normally see in the daily media.
Lewis, who's also a journalism professor at American University in Washington DC, has a new book: “935 Lies: The Future of Truth and the decline of America’s Moral Integrity.” He visited The Green to discuss it. (More)
