2014 Candidate Conversations: Attorney General

As part of our election coverage, Delaware Public Media is offering a series of Candidate Conversations. We’ve reached out to all candidates that have filed to run in a statewide race and invited them to sit down with us. Candidates in each race are being asked the same set of questions to allow you to get to know then and compare them.

This week, we start our look at the race for State Attorney General. There are a handful of hopefuls seeking to replace incumbent Democrat Beau Biden who announced in April he would not run for another term, but instead seek the Governor’s office in 2016.

Democrat and current Lt. Gov. Matt Denn and Republican Ted Kittila are joined in the race by The Green Party’s Catherine Damanvandi, the Independent Party of Delaware’s David Graham and Libertarian John Machurek.

Machurek did not respond to our invitation to participate, but the others did. On this week's show, we hear from Damavandi and Denn. (More)

The selection was a bit of a surprise. Many saw former Superior Court Judge Joseph R. Slights III as the front-runner.

What tipped the scales in Judge Vaughn’s favor? We turn to Delaware Public Media contributor Jeff Mordock of Delaware Law Weekly – who reports strong backing from Kent County may have made the difference. (More)

The Delaware Historical Society’s Delaware History Museum in Wilmington is closed, but not because of any issues with the building or organization.

Actually, it’s just the opposite. As it celebrates its 150 anniversary, the Delaware History Society announced in August it had raised $5 million of the $6.6 million it was seeking in a capital campaign, enough to begin a series of major renovations to its downtown Wilmington campus it expects to have completed by 2016.

In this month’s History Matters, produced in conjunction with the Historical Society, we take a look at the project and what the organization will be doing while its museum is dark.(More)
