Wanted: New Chief Justice[jwplayer config="jw-audio-only" mediaid="52271"]

There’s unique job opening in Delaware right now. The state needs a new Supreme Court Chief after the current chief Justice Myron T. Steele announced earlier his year he is resigning as of Nov. 30th. The state’s Judicial Nominating Commission issued a notice seeking applicants for the job earlier this month.

Green contributor Jeff Mordock of Delaware Law Weekly joined us this week to help walk us through the nomination process and discuss who may be up for the top seat on the First State’s highest court.

Perhaps nowhere is the U.S. military’s draw-down after twelve years of war more welcome than at Dover Air Force Base Mortuary Affairs Operations.

As WDDE’s Joseph Leahy reports, with fewer casualties arriving from overseas, the office is reducing staff and preparing for more peaceful times.

Easing the Transition

There’s more and more research showing that making the move from middle school to high school is much more than just learning the layout of a larger building.

To help ease 9th graders into high school, some Delaware public schools have turned to ninth grade academies that concentrate the core of students’ classes in an isolated wing of the school and provide other programs to help nurture and support ninth graders. WDDE and contributor Larry Nagengast recently looked into these academies and how they’re working.

Election Day 2014 is just over a year away – which means the start of the campaign season is not far off.

What does the First State’s political landscape look like heading into the midterm cycle? A new poll from the University of Delaware Center for Political Communication provides an early snapshot.

Acting Director of UD’s Center for Political Communication – Professor Paul Brewer joined Tom Byrne on The Green this week to dig into the numbers.

Enlighten me: Digging up First State history

[jwplayer config="jw-audio-only" mediaid="52300"]

As a news director – I’m always worried about that story that slips the cracks. So I’ve asked my staff – and I’m asking you - to Enlighten Me about a story, a place, a person in the First State that I – and everyone else - should know more about. It can be serious, quirky, inspiring or silly.

Our first Enlighten Me comes from WDDE Political reporter James Dawson – who shows us there’s always an opportunity to dig up some more First State history.
