There was another twist this week in the ongoing battle over proposed 39 to 42 percent rate increases to Delaware’s workers comp premiums. The process is headed back behind closed doors.

The Delaware Compensation Rating Bureau, the state Insurance Department, and the ratepayer advocate all agreed to new, private negotiations.

The decision raised some concerns among those involved in trying to keep the rates under control, including Lt. Gov. Matt Denn – chair of the state’s Workers Compensation task force that helped developed legislation last year to address the issue.

Denn offered The Green his take on where this issue stands – and some other topics this week. (More)

Christiana Mall poised to change its roster of stores

[jwplayer config="jw-audio-only_post" mediaid="57272"]

In a retail landscape checkered with SPACE AVAILABLE signs, Christiana Mall is in the enviable position of having more merchants who want to set up shop there than there are places for them to do business.

That provides the mall with a rare opportunity to pick and choose, replacing underperforming retailers whose leases are expiring with new merchants who might resonate more with shoppers.

This year, Christiana expects to add at least 11 new or expanded stores to its lineup of 130-plus stores.

WDDE contributor Eileen Dallabrida examined why the Christiana Mall is in such a strong position for The Green this week. (More)

As we mentioned a week ago, there’s a couple of First State college basketball teams that could find themselves in the thick of March Madness.

Last week, we told you about the Wesley College men’s hoop team, nationally ranked in Division III. This week, we head to Newark where after years of yielding the spotlight to Elena Delle Donne and the women’s program – the University of Delaware men’s squad is making some noise.

The 19-7 Blue Hens are a perfect 11-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association. They’ve won 13 in a row, 10 straight at home and are starting to draw crowds to back to the Bob for men’s basketball.

The Green visited with head coach Monte Ross for his thoughts on the resurgence of men’s hoops at UD.
