JFC co-chair offers insight on looming 2015 budget deficit, budget process

The new year is likely to bring new challenges for the State of Delaware as it develops its Fiscal year 2015 budget.

Earlier this week, The Delaware Economic and Financial Advisory Council or DEFAC released its latest revenue estimates - and the news was not great. The state still faces a budget gap of about 125 million dollars.

As Gov. Jack Markell begins to craft the 2015 budget proposal he’ll unveil next month, The Green sat down with the co-chair of the budget-writing Joint Finance Committee – State Rep. Melanie George Smith (D-Bear) to discuss the shortfall and the process of putting the budget together. (More)

Greenwood says good-bye to Yoder's Country Store

The town of Greenwood is about to lose a Mom-and-Pop business that has been a fixture in the community for nearly a century under a variety of owners. Yoder’s Country Store is closing its doors for good on Christmas Eve.

Enlighten me: Delaware 87ers & head coach Rod Baker

This week in our Enlighten Me segment – we learn more about the Delaware 87ers, whose inaugural season in the NBA Developmental League is underway.

The team made its Delaware debut earlier this month at the Bob Carpenter Center - where it plays all of its home games.

The D-League is the NBA’s official minor league and the Sevens are the Philadelphia 76ers affiliate, owned and operated by the Sixers.

10 games into their first season – The Sevens are just 2-8 as they head to Texas this weekend for a pair of games at Austin.

But like most minor league sports – there’s more to the story than just wins and losses. The Green sat down with Sevens head coach Rod Baker this week to learn more about the team and the NBA D-League. (More)
