Bodybuilding's mainstream popularity exploded when the film "Pumping Iron" hit screens in 1977, igniting the careers of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno. But the impact wasn't just felt by men.

Female competitions were established and in 1982 the International Federation of BodyBuilding and Fitness officially recognized the women’s edition of sport.

Delaware Public Media's Karl Malgiero’s visited the event for this week’s Enlighten Me – and talked to Tracey Greenwood, an associate professor of exercise physiology at Eastern University in Philadelphia, who has competed in numerous fitness, figure and bikini competitions, and is a 9 time IFBB Fitness Champion.
