The Grand Opera House announces line-up for the 2015-16 season

Singer-songwriter Graham Nash will kick off the 2015-16 season at The Grand Opera House in Wilmington.  Nash is a two time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee with Crosby, Stills and Nash and The Hollies.

More than 60 shows have been announced for The Grand’s three venues: Copeland Hall, the baby grand, and the recently added Playhouse on Rodney Square.

Additional concerts and shows are expected to be added as more musical acts announce fall and winter tours.

Among the headliners is bluesman Buddy Guy, political commentator and comedian Bill Maher and kid’s music stalwarts, The Wiggles.

Grand Executive Director Mark Fields says the historic theater draws talent because of its solid reputation within the artist community.

“These theaters work with the artists to create a really magical experience,” he says. “The country singer Kathy Mattea was here once and she said, ‘when you sing in this room, the room sings with you.’ Artists  tour throughout the country and most of the time they’re performing in kind of gray concrete boxes that could be anywhere but these theaters have personality and a character all of their own.”

The 2015-16 season will be the first schedule with both The Grand and The Playhouse events under a joint operation.

In January, the DuPont Company announced it was selling the DuPont Theatre to The Grand Opera House. The venue was renamed The Playhouse on Rodney Square.

This piece is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
