Governor Jack Markell is stressing the need for Delaware small businesses to access global markets so they can expand and create jobs.

In his weekly message, the governor said programs like the Global Delaware Initiative and the State Trade and Export Promotion, or STEP, program will help entrepreneurs enter new markets.

These programs help with trade missions for businesses and provide matching funds to a company for marketing abroad.

"With that help, dozens of Delaware employers have connected with new markets in some of the world’s fastest-growing economies.  They’ve forged relationships with new clients and potential customers that will serve as a catalyst for their growth in the years to come,” Markell said.

30 Delaware employers have worked with Global Delaware and the Step Program this year. The governor said he wants more businesses to take advantage of these initiatives.

He said exports support more than 10 million American jobs.
