Gov. John Carney announced his nominations for vacanies on Delaware’s judiciary, including seats on the Delaware Court of Chancery.
The list of eight still needs to be confirmed by the Delaware Senate. The nominees would replace three retiring judges and fill the positions left vacant by other nominations.
To serve as Chancellor of the Delaware Court of Chancery, Carney is tapping Vice Chancellor Kathaleen McCormick. Carney nominated McCormick for Vice Chancellor in 2018 and she was confirmed by the Senate. If confirmed as Chancellor, she would replace retiring Chancellor Andre Bouchard.
In a statement, Carney said McCormick has “the experience and good judgment” for the job and would “make sure Delaware's preeminent business court is well prepared for the future.”
Lawyer Lori Will will be nominated to replace McCormick as Vice Chancellor. Will is currently a partner at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati in Wilmington.
Resident Judge of Superior Court in Kent County William Witham is also retiring. Carney plans to nominate Judge Jeffrey Clark who also serves on that court as his replacement.
Dover lawyer Reneta Green-Streett is Carney’s nomination to fill Clark’s place on Superior Court.
Judge Carl Danberg will be nominated as Chief Judge of the Court of Common Pleas, and would replace the retiring Chief Judge Alex Smalls. Superior Court Commisioner Katharine Mayer will be nominated as a Judge on the Court of Common Pleas. Justice of the Peace Court Magistate Emily Ferrell will be nominated to fll Mayer's role as Commisioner. And Judge Anne HArtnett will be nominated for reappointment to the Court of Common Pleas in Kent County.
