GOP weekly message reminds folks to give back during holidays

Delaware GOP Chairman Charlie Copeland delivers this week’s message, emphasizing that the holidays are time to reflect and be thankful for what we have.

And he reminds folks to pay notice to those who cannot celebrate the holidays with their families this year -- from the military personnel overseas to the homeless.

As Copeland discussed the less fortunate, he said quote, “I hope that, as we are spending time enjoying the many gifts that we have, that we also take time to be of service to those who are not with their families this holiday season.”

Copeland concluded the weekly message asking folks to engage in community service, and to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday.

Full text of the weekly message:

Hello, I’m Charlie Copeland, Chairman of the Delaware Republican Party.

December is, for many faiths, a time of celebration and reflection. It’s a time for family and a time for recommitting ourselves to all that we hold dear in our lives. And it is also a time for thanks.

As we gather with family and friends over the next few weeks there will be those who are serving in our military overseas, others ensuring that our families and neighborhoods are safe, and even more Americans working to provide life saving care to those in need.

These individuals will not be with their families celebrating. Rather, they will be serving all of us, and we owe them our thanks. There are also those who are less fortunate than many of those who hear my words today. The sick and suffering, the homeless, and those with no families. We owe it to them to be remembered in our prayers and our actions.

I hope that, as we are spending time enjoying the many gifts that we have, that we also take time to be of service to those who are not with their families this holiday season. That we make a commitment to engage in community service, and place service before self. The spiritual benefit of service to others allows us to step outside of ourselves and to understand how very fortunate we are for the gifts that we have.

On behalf of the Delaware Republican Party I wish you and your families a safe and happy holiday season. May God bless you and your family and may God continue to bless our State and our Country.
