Girls Inc. of Delaware celebrates new home

Girls Inc. of Delaware

Girls Inc. of Delaware is moving into its new headquarters this Wednesday.

Executive Director Holly Maddams said their new home base on Wilmington's East Side has new offices and a dedicated meeting space. Maddams noted that in recent years Girl’s Inc. had focused on holding its programs in-house, but is pivoting to a more community outreach model.

“So we work in partnership with schools, community groups (and) churches to set up programs in areas where they are easily accessible for the girls,” Maddams said.

The new approach is more cost effective and serves more girls in the community, she said.

Maddams adds this new home is in the exact location they want to serve.

“We really wanted to be in a neighborhood where we could have the most impact. And being on Wilmington’s east side is where we need to be," said Maddams. "There are 1,000 girls between the ages of 6 and 18 just in the East Side community. And then there’s even more on the other side of the bridge in the Brandywine Village community.”

The new building is located at 1501 N Walnut Street in Wilmington.

Girls Inc. of Delaware has been aiding young women in the First State for over 60 years.
