Gas prices continue to push higher

Delaware Public Media

First State drivers could see gas prices hit the $3 per gallon mark very soon.

AAA Mid-Atlantic reports the average price for a gallon of regular in the First State spiked again this past week, climbing 8 cents to hit $2.85.

And prices are up 16 cents over the past two weeks.

By comparison, the price in Delaware was just $2.18 a year ago.

AAA says strong summer demand for gas and rising crude oil prices continue to fuel higher prices.  And it notes that should a hurricane crop up along the Gulf Coast and threat refineries there – prices could rise even more

Gas has already hit the $3 mark in the Philadelphia area, where its now $3.08

The national average sits at $2.88, up a penny over the past week.
