Gas prices continue falling in First State

Delaware Public Media

First State gas prices have been dropping for a month.

AAA Mid-Atlantic reports the average price for a gallon of regular in the First State dropped six cents from $2.53 to $2.47 in the past week. Motorists in Delaware are now paying nearly a dollar less than a year ago when the state’s average stood at $3.37.

Delawaregasprices.com reports there are just over a dozen stations selling a gallon of regular for $2.37 or slightly less. Several of these stations are located in Dover.

Delaware drivers are paying 13 cents below the national average, which fell five cents to $2.60 since last week.

Delaware’s downward streak reflects the national trend in gas prices. Last month the average was $2.76. According to AAA officials, the price of crude oil is expected to stay low for the time being, which translates to lower gas prices for motorists.

Experts say that the oversupplied oil market, decreasing demand and falling crude oil prices means that gas prices could drop below $2 per gallon in some parts of the country by the end of this year.
