A pleasure boating club is expanding its operations at the Delaware beaches.
The Cape May-Lewes Ferry is partnering with Freedom Boat Club Delaware to allow the club’s pleasure boats to dock at the Lewes Ferry Terminal Finger Pier.
The Lewes Ferry Terminal is the third Delaware location where club members have access to various sizes and types of pleasure boats.
The Freedom Boat Club Delaware started in 2018 and its co-owner Beverly Rosella says the partnership helps expand its operations - which already offered boats both in Lewes and Long Neck.
“We’re adding 6-7 new boats to the fleet here in Delaware. And that would include four boats at the Ferry Terminal and a couple new boats at each of our prior locations,” said Rosella.
Rosella says Freedom Boat Club Delaware’s goal is to offer a boating experience without the hassles of ownership.
“We buy and maintain the fleet of boats." said Rosella. "So everything to do with the boats - the purchase, the maintenance the repairs, the winterization, the storage, the hauling, the insurance and the towing - all of that - we take care of that.”
She notes boats are available to members only starting May 1st through the end of September.
"We sell memberships. So for a one-time, up-front initiation fee and then monthly dues, essentially, our members get unlimited access to our entire fleet of boats here in Delaware. And that’s managed through an online reservation system,” said Rosella.
Rosella also points out that members also get unlimited training from U.S. Coast Guard licensed captains before they are allowed use of their boats.
