The state is hosting free vaccination clinics as the start of the 2019 flu season is officially underway.
Delaware’s Division of Public Health has two events scheduled.
One is marked for this Friday, Oct. 4 at the Porter State Service Center in Wilmington. A drive-thru clinic is planned for next Tuesday, Oct. 8 at the DelDOT administrative building in Dover.
The flu vaccine is recommended for Delawareans 6 months of age and older, the events are open to individuals nine years or older.
In a statement Department of Health and Social Services Secretary Dr. Kara Odom Walker says, “Now is the time to get your flu shot.”
The vaccination takes two weeks to develop influenza antibodies in the body.
Last flu season Delaware recorded more than 6,300 laboratory-confirmed flu cases with more than 1,000 hospitalizations due and 24 deaths.
The year before a record-breaking season in the First State with roughly 9,000 confirmed flu cases and 35 flu-related deaths.
