First State unemployment rate holding steady

Delaware Public Media

Delaware’s unemployment rate seems to have stabilized after months of decline.

4.5% of Delawareans we’re claiming unemployment at the start of the year.

But for the second month in a row, joblessness in the First State rests at 3.9%—identical to the national rate.

Department of Labor officials point to Labor Force Participation Rate not increasing as another sign Delaware’s economy is at full employment.

That rate rose in the early years of this decade, then leveled off and dropped the past two years from 63.2% to 62.6%.

Officials say this indicates part of the population is not looking for work and there is an increase in retirements.
