First State reports new flu-related deaths

Delaware Public Media

The First State saw two more flu-related deaths last week.

State health officials report a 68-year-old Sussex County woman and an 85-year-old New Castle County man died last week.

Both had underlying health conditions.

That brings the total number of flu deaths this season to 15. That’s four less than a year ago at this time when the flu was responsible for 19 fatalities.

Lab-confirmed flu cases are also down this season.

State health officials say as of Feb. 16th, there have been 3,264 cases of flu and 537 hospitalizations. A year ago, the state had seen 5,758 confirmed cases and 813 hospitalizations.
