First State gas prices increased in the past week

Delaware Public Media

First State gas prices were up over the past week.

AAA Mid-Atlantic reports the average price for a gallon of regular in Delaware rose by three cents from $2.25 to $2.28. This is the first time Delaware prices at the pump have climbed in over three weeks.

Delawaregasprices.com reports there are just over a dozen stations selling a gallon of regular for $2.19 or slightly less – mostly in New Castle County.

Delaware drivers are paying 11 cents below the national average, which fell three cents to $2.39 in the past week. That’s over a dollar less than what drivers nationally were paying a year ago, at $3.57.

AAA officials expect that gas prices will remain below $3 per gallon for the rest of the year. They also add that some places in the country may even see prices hover near the $2 mark again.

The cost of crude oil will mainly influence gas prices over the next few months. A glut in global petroleum supplies is responsible for the low prices. However, Triple-A officials say it’s possible for prices to rise again, due to international conflict and unexpected refinery issues.
