The Firefly Music Festival will not be held in Dover this year because of the escalating novel coronavirus pandemic.
Firefly organizers announced the cancellation in a statement Tuesday.
"At the direction of state and local authorities and federal guidelines amid the COVID-19 pandemic, we are saddened to confirm the cancellation of Firefly Music Festival 2020," said the statement. "We take the safety and health of our fans, staff and community seriously and we urge everyone to follow the guidelines and protocols put forth by public health officials."
Firefly had been scheduled to be held June 18 through the 21, 2020. Organzizers say they plan to return in 2021.
This latest news comes on the heels of NASCAR’s May race being postponed and Old Over Days - also slated for May - being shelved. Dover officials had already projected $30- to $40 million dollars in losses with those to events.
If you have already purchased tickets to Firefly, you will receive a full refund or you can transfer your ticket to next year’s event.
