Festival brings Bach to Wilmington

Choir School of Delaware

The Choir School of Delaware is partnering with the Delaware Historical Society for the inaugural Wilmington Bach Festival.

The three concert event is spread out over two days at the Old Town Hall in Wilmington. It includes performances from the Choir School and local musicians.

Choir School of Delaware Assistant Director of Music John Walthausen said it’s a way to reintroduce his students and the public to the man who influenced Beethoven and Mozart.

"Outside of classical music, the influence that he had was so fundamental. If you listen to the piano playing of Nina Simone, who began as a classical musician, you can hear the counterpoint of Bach," he said.

It’s this Friday May 12 and Saturday 13 ay 12 at the Old Town Hall on Market Street in Downtown Wilmington.

Delaware Public Media' s arts coverage is made possible, in part, by support from theDelaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
