An Ellendale artist looking to give back to the community he’s called home since the 1990’s with a public mural.
Gilberto Rodriguez started a mural on the side of the Linda Vista Real Estate Service building in Seaford last year, but stopped when the coronavirus pandemic hit.
Rodriguez is back at work now- and says he hopes to finish it next month.
“I’m trying to combine the American with the Hispanic community because the Hispanic community is growing very big in the Seaford area. We’ve got Mexicans, we’ve got Saladorans, we’ve got Guatemalans…..we’ve got all countrie," said Rodriguez. "So I’m trying to mix this community in a mural."
Rodriguez hopes the 100x35-foot mural not only brings communities together, but also depicts everything Seaford has to offer, including the Woodland Ferry and the iconic railroad tracks that run through the City.
It’s one of the largest mural for the artist who started on a much smaller scale when he was 6-years old.
“I was doing my little drawings in school - middle school - when I was 6, 7, 8 and I really never quit. So I’m still doing it. You know, I’m doing this just for fun.”
