E-cigs bill on its way to House floor

Delaware Public Media

After a two-day hearing that included nearly two hours of public comment Wednesday, a bill that would ban the use of electronic cigarettes or e-cigs in indoor public places is headed to the House.

Much of the testimony centered on concerns from shop owners who sell the products that say it would hurt their business.

Some legislators also questioned the science behind studies finding heavy metals and other toxic chemicals in the vapor released by the machines.

House lawmakers passed a similar bill last year that would’ve exempted vape shops for a period of time, but that language wasn’t included in this legislation.

The Senate never debated that bill late last year.

Legislators will take up the issue again when they return from spring break later this month.
