Black Friday got an early start in Dover, with folks lining up hours before Thanksgiving dinner was even on the table.
Best Buy on Route 13 was open 5 p.m. Thursday to 1 a.m. Friday morning, with more opening hours set for Friday -- and before Thanksgiving dinner was even in the oven, dozens of Dover residents were queuing up to partake.
Seventeen-year-old Kedar Davis, a senior at Caesar Rodney High School, was first in line. He was angling for a laptop or a pair of Beats headphones.
He'd been there since 9 a.m., but he said it was nothing compared to his experience at Walmart's Black Friday in Camden.
"Like a couple years ago," he said. "It was real crazy. I, like, jumped on a Rock Band kit. It was funny."
The Thursday option, he said, is a little more relaxed.
"I think it's a really good time of, like, 5 o'clock, because dinner doesn't start 'til, like, 7:30 or 6," he said. "So we should hopefully be done by that time."
A little ways down the line, Mike Hudgins was sitting in camp chairs with one of his daughters, both with earbuds in. He said he likes these early Black Friday hours, although:
"Only thing it does is it messes up your Thanksgiving Day dinner, a little bit," he said.
Hudgins was thinking of trading out with his fiancee to sit in line later on so he could go home and help cook. Either way, he had his sights set on Best Buy's 49-inch TVs.
"I just hope they've got enough of them. We're, like, 13th or 14th in line," he said. "Trying to get two of 'em, so."
He said he was first in line at Dover's Staples last year. They opened at 6 p.m. Thanksgiving Day. Hudgins arrived at 3 p.m. and went home with a laptop.
