DNREC extends "No Wake Zone" in Lewes-Rehoboth Canal

Additional “No Wake” signs have been installed in the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal southward to Rehoboth Bay.

DNREC’s Fish and Wildlife Natural Resources Police say the new signs extend the current “No Wake Zone.”

“What we are doing is - we are extending a three-quarter of a mile area from Bay Vista Marina to Rehoboth Bay, which is on the south-end of the Canal - to also make that part of the “Slow, No Wake Zone,” said Captain Doug Messeck - with Fish and Wildlife Natural Resources Police.

He describes a “No Wake Zone” as an area with increased boat traffic, heavy usage, environmental factors and docks. He says boats need to slow down in these areas for safety reasons.

Messeck says Fish and Wildlife Police met with local businesses, state park officials and the boating public prior to extending the “No Wake Zone.”

He says many complained about wake violations in the area.
