Delaware State University Art Center and Gallery is set to showcase the Delaware state employee art exhibition later this month.

The exhibition has become an annual event at DSU hosted by the Delaware Division of the Arts.

“It is an opportunity for State employees and their family members to be part of an exhibition of visual art. And to show their talent that they’ve been doing at home that maybe they’ve never been able to show before,” said Division of  the Arts’ deputy director Kristin Pleasanton.

She says the exhibition started eight years ago.

“With the idea that we were kind of in an economic downturn - state employees - just we thought it would be a nice boost; kind of a morale boost and a fun activity,” Pleasanton said.

Pleasanton notes more than 270 state employees and their family members have registered to show their artwork, in all sizes and all media.

“Each year we usually have over 250 registrants who have come with their artworks, or their children’s artwork or their siblings. And it’s just amazing at what they’ve produced,” said Pleasanton, who adds

some artwork will even be for sale.

Prizes will be handed out during a reception and awards ceremony on March 17, 2019. Categories highlight various ages and talent levels, and includes a Best of Show Award and a People’s Choice Award.

The exhibition runs from February 25, 2019 through March 18, 2019 at DSU. It is free and open to the public Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The exhibit will also be open on two Saturdays - March 2, 2019 and March 9, 2019.
