Delaware’s Department of Correction announced additional cases of COVID-19 among inmates and correctional officers Tuesday.
The DOC announced 20 more inmates at Vaughn Correctional Center have tested positive for COVID-19 along with six additional correctional officers statewide.
The DOC says it is partnering with state public health to start rapid testing for the virus at Vaughn, where a total of 51 inmates and 22 correctional staff are known to have tested positive to date.
In a statement, Commissioner Claire DeMatteis said "the virus remains isolated to two buildings at [Vaughn] and one Community Corrections Center in Georgetown,"
State correction officials say the Department continues to conduct inmate temperature checks, distribute face masks and ramp up sanitation at the affected sites.
Statewide 12 more deaths related to the coronavirus were announced Tuesday. The total in Delaware is now 137.
The total number of COVID-19 cases in Delaware since March 11 is now at 4,575 — that number rose by 413 since Monday.
The current hospitalizations in Delaware rose by 12 to 337 Tuesday. More than 1,000 people are now considered recovered.
