DelDOT starts three projects with new federal funds

Delaware Public Media

Several First State road projects are getting the green light thanks to $10.4 million in funding from the Federal Highway Administration.

The Delaware Department of Transportation says work will begin almost immediately on three statewide projects, including adding a roundabout west of Camden at the intersection of Route 10 and Route 13.

“That’s a project that will improve safety and alleviate some congestion at that traffic movement," DelDOT Director of Community Relations Jeff Sundstrom said.

He said the funds allow DelDOT to start improvements in Newark to the westbound side of Churchman’s road from Christiana Hospital to Route 1. The project will add sidewalk and ADA curb improvements, as well as turn lanes.

Near Bear, DelDOT will install an improved guardrail between Route 40 and Tybouts Corner.

The money will also fund design work on an overpass near Ellendale and rehabbing portions of I-95 from I-495 to north of the Brandywine River.
