Delaware Public Media

New unemployment claims in Delaware continued to slow heading into the state’s second phase of reopening.

The Delaware Labor Department received 2,516 new claims for the week ending June 13th.  It also paid more than $42 million in total claims that week.

More than 109,000 claims and nearly $415 million in the benefits have been paid to Delawareans since March 15th.

The Department of Labor also released Delaware’s monthly unemployment numbers for May Thursday.  The state's jobless rate rose to 15.8 percent last month - almost one percent higher than April.

That’s in contrast to the national rate  which dropped from 14.7 to 13.3 percent.  A year ago, the state and national unemployment rates hovered around 3 and a half percent.
