Delawareans used to have to travel to state job centers to use its computers. But, the state is now bringing its employment resources to residents through its new mobile job center.

State officials have named the 40-foot bus Mobile One-Stop. It has 10 computers, wireless internet access and a printer. It’s staffed by Delaware Department of Labor employees who can help with resumes and job searches.

It will be stationed around the city of Wilmington through October. Gov. John Carney said that is because Wilmington is the state’s commercial center. He said the bus will help people without transportation use the state’s job website to find work.

“So, it’s just an opportunity as we’ve said, as Secretary Gilliam-Johnson said, to take these resources - and in particular the job link technology out to individuals who need that those services,” he said.

For the next couple months, the Mobile One-Stop will make weekly visits to Wilmington’s Safe Haven Community Centers. It’ll also be park on Rodney Square in downtown Wilmington on Wednesday afternoons.

State Labor Secretary Patrice Gilliam-Johnson said it can also be used across the state.

“It’s a way of bringing our services to the community," she said. "It’s also a way of letting the community know all of the services that we are able to provide through the Department of Labor. So, yeah, I’m expecting that is going to be year-round, ongoing, all the time.”

She hopes that linking unemployed Delawareans with jobs will help reduce crime levels throughout the state.
