Delaware's COVID State of Emergency ends

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Delaware’s COVID State of Emergency officially ended at midnight Tuesday.

Gov. John Carney signed an order lifting the state of emergency Monday afternoon.

The state of emergency had been in place since March 13, 2020 at the outset of the pandemic, and was modified 29 times.

Carney also signed a more limited Public Health Emergency order Monday, allowing the state and medical providers to continue COVID-19 vaccination and testing programs.  It requires providers offering the vaccine to make it available to anyone who qualifies at no-cost.

It also authorizes Division of Public Health to direct the state’s COVID-19 vaccination, treatment and mitigation measures and allows the National Guard to be used in support of those efforts.

“Delawareans pulled together over this past year and made real sacrifices to limit the spread of COVID-19, protect their neighbors, and save lives,” said Carney in a statement. “It wasn’t easy, and some sacrificed more than others. But I believe we’ll come out of this pandemic stronger for it. As we emerge from this crisis, let’s remember the 1,695 Delawareans we lost to COVID-19, and recommit to working together to build the future of our great state.”

Carney plans to hold a virtual town hall updating the state’s pandemic response Tuesday night at 7 p.m. That can be found on the state's website, sas well as Gov. Carney's Facebook pageand YouTube channel.
