Delaware's COVID death toll surpasses 850

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Delaware sees another jump in COVID-related deaths.

State health officials announced another 9 deaths Friday, lifting the state’s death toll to 854.

The state has recorded 59 deaths this month.

Four of the latest deaths were in Kent County. Three were in New Castle county and 2 in Sussex County and one in Kent.  All of the victims had underlying health conditions and 2 were residents of long-term care facilities.

The First State better news on other fronts.

Hospitalizations statewide held at 407 Thursday, but 68 people are considered critically ill.  That's up 10 from Wednesday.

Delaware saw just 8323 new cases Thursday, the lowest number in one day since November 24th.  That dropped the state’s 7-day rolling average for new cases below 800 to just under 764.

The state’s seven day rolling percentage of positive tests remains below 10, sitting at 9.7 percent.

Delaware has now topped 49,000 positive cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began - out of almost 883,000 total tests.
