Delaware's COVID-19 numbers remain 'elevated' despite slight decline

Coronavirus numbers tick down in the First Statethis week, but remain "elevated" according to state health officials.

 

Delaware's Division of Public Health reports 716 new positive cases of COVID-19 over the past week. The average number of new cases per day dropped slightly to 102.3.

 

The total number of confirmed cases in Delaware to date surpassed 20,000 this week, reaching 20,085.

 

The percent of people testing positive has ticked down since last week, the average is now 6.7 percent.

 

There have been 11 new deaths since last Friday, bringing the death toll since the pandemic began to 631.

 

Delaware’s two major universities continue to see fairly low numbers of positive cases among students and faculty.

 

58 people tested positive for COVID-19 at the University of Delaware this week as of Friday. That means a total of 243 students have tested positive since the school reopened. The vast majority of classes are online and most students haven’t returned to campus.

 

Delaware State University reports a total of 55 COVID cases since the start of fall term. University spokesman Carlos Holmes says students and faculty are tested twice a week, and the school has conducted a little under 13 thousand tests on campus.
