Youth sports in Delaware start to return during Phase Two of the state’s Reopening Plan.

That begins Monday, but Delaware Division of Public Health Division Director Dr. Karyl Rattay said not all sports can restart.

“We’re finishing up some guidance that we will be releasing in the next few days.  It will be relevant for all sports,” Rattay said.  “But, we’re also working on specific guidance for the most commonly played contact sports in order to help people get back into them like baseball, softball, lacrosse, soccer, and field hockey, volleyball, and flag football as examples.”

Rattay said football, wrestling, ice hockey, and rugby will resume at a later time.

The plan allows competitions between two teams and individual sports.  Tournaments are expected to resume under Phase Three.  Players and coaches must follow the state’s health and safety measures.

Phase Two’s guidelines for summer youth sports will be released on Friday.
