Delaware reports first flu case of new season

Delaware Public Media

Delaware has confirmed its first case of flu for the 2015 season.

The Division of Public Health reports a 26-year-old New Castle County man went to the emergency room after falling sick with the virus. He was not hospitalized and is now recovering at home.

The DPH says the man contracted the 'A' strain of the virus, one of two they're warning about this year.

The state recommends that everyone over the age of six months get a flu shot to prevent the spread of flu. In 2014, there were almost 2,400 reported cases and 28 flu deaths in Delaware, up from just four in 2013.

But officials say last year was a tough year -- where the virus mutated and made their vaccine less effective. They expect better results from the shots this year.
