Delaware National Guard welcomes some troops home as others deploy

Tom Byrne/Delaware Public Media

The Delaware National Guard welcomes back a host of troops after serving abroad, but not before saying goodbye to a handful of others at the Army Aviation Support Facility in New Castle Sunday morning.

Seven members of Detachment 7 from the Army National Guard Operation Support Airlift Agency will depart for the Horn of Africa to transport personnel and supplies as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.

An experienced group, the New Castle-based detachment is no stranger to combat or imminent danger while having logged 30,000  flight hours.

It’s not the first deployment for any of of the soldiers, and some are even on their fourth.

Returning home from a six-month deployment to Southeast Asia providing support to wounded troops are 20 members of the Air Guard's 142nd Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron in Southeast Asia.

And 30 Airmen of the 166th Civil Engineer Squadron will also return from Southeast Asia after providing skilled trade work at air base facilities located there.

The departure/return ceremony for the soldiers begins Sunday at 10 am and is open to the public.
