The Delaware Hispanic Commission is launching a statewide study of culture, language and more.

The goal is to identify where the gaps in healthcare and other services for Latinos are, and what’s already working.

Dr. Rosa Colon-Kolacko is chair of the Health and Social Services Committee of the Delaware Hispanic Commission.

She says the study is part of the Hispanic Policy Agenda, launched during last year’s Latino Annual Summit.

“The health and social services committee is focusing on some key areas to promote health among the Latino community," Colon-Kolacko said. "One of them is education, to make sure they know how to navigate the health system, and being able to access services when they need it.”

Another area of focus is language and other culture-specific needs of the Delaware Latino community.

The study is two-pronged, with a focus on data collection from healthcare providers as well as community members.

Focus groups for the community will be held this Wednesday and Thursday in Wilmington, Dover and Georgetown. Below are the times and places:

5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Westside Family Healthcare, 1802 W. Fourth St., Wilmington

12:30-2 p.m., Delaware Department of Transportation building, 800 Bay Road, Dover

5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Delaware Technical Community College - Owens Campus, Carter Partnership Center Room 530, 21179 College Drive, Georgetown
