Delaware gas prices remain unchanged for second straight week

Delaware Public Media

First State gas prices did not budge again over the past week.

AAA Mid-Atlantic reports the average price for a gallon of regular in First State remained unchanged last week – holding steady at $2.60 for a second straight week.

But that price is still nearly a dollar less than what Delaware drivers were paying a year ago at an average of $3.56.

Delawaregasprices.com reports there are just under a dozen stations selling a gallon of regular for $2.53 or slightly less  – mostly in New Castle County.

Delaware drivers are paying ten cents below the national average, which rose 4 cents to $2.70 since last week.

AAA Mid-Atlantic says that the slowing U.S. production of crude oil and the weakening U.S. dollar has contributed to rising gas prices in the region. However, AAA also expect that motorists traveling on Memorial Day weekend will enjoy the lowest gas prices they’ve experienced in five years during the holiday.

Officials predict that automotive travel will be up 5.3 percent, or 33 million travelers, during the holiday weekend compared to last year.
