Delaware Farm Bureau seeks artists for State Fair Chalkboard Contest

Submitted Photo
This summer marks the 100th anniversary of the Delaware State Fair in Harrington. And it’s the Delaware Farm Bureau’s (DFB) 75th anniversary.";s:

The Women’s Committee of the Delaware Farm Bureau (DFB) wants to give a local artist the chance to add their touch to this summer’s Delaware State Fair.

The committee wants a new chalkboard drawing made for the fair -- and it’s holding a contest for younger First State artists -- up to the age of 24 -- to earn the chance to design it.

“In our picnic area we have a large four-foot-by-eight-foot chalkboard. And we usually have something up there; we like to advertise the youth groups who are serving as volunteers for any given day,” said Laura Hill - first vice president of the Delaware Farm Bureau.

She says the idea came about a few years ago when a young artist drew a design on the chalkboard.

Hill says now, they want to mark two milestones with a new design, “That incorporates the 100 Anniversary of the State Fair, as well as the 75th Anniversary of the Delaware Farm Bureau.”

Interested artists are asked to submit a sketch in any medium to the Farm Bureau by June 15, 2019, at least 8"X11", along with your name, address, phone number, email address, school (if applicable) and a short biography.

Your sketch and info should be sent to the Delaware Farm Bureau Women's Committee Art Contest, 3457 S. DuPont Highway, Camden, DE, 19934.

The winner will be announced by June 30, 2019.

“The winning artists will receive $150. And after they submit their sketch, they will be expected to actually draw it on this chalkboard just prior to the Fair,” said Hill.
