Delaware COVID-19 recoveries pass 56,000, new numbers remain low

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

State health officials announced 27 more positive cases Friday, bringing the total to 9,773 since March 11th.

Two new deaths were reported, pushing the state's death toll to 388.  The victims were two Kent County women over the age of 78. One had underlying health conditions and one lived at a long-term care facility.

By county, most cases were found in New Castle County with twelve.  Kent County only reported eleven.  Only eight were found in Sussex County which still has the most cases 4,322.

Current hospitalizations decreased by 14 with the total at 128. 26 people are critically ill.

And, for the second straight day 69 Delawareans are recovered from the virus bringing the statewide total to 5,631.

The state also released its weekly update of COVID-19 data from long-term care facilities. 247 of the state's 388 COVID-19 deaths to date have been residents of these facilties, including 22 this week.

10 of this week's deaths occurred at Harrison House Senior Living in Georgetown, which now has the most deaths among the state's long-term care facilities with 35.

A total of 30 facilites statewide have had at least one COVID-19 death and 10 have have 10 or more.

And state health officials report long-term care facilities account for 990 of the state's 9,773 positive COVID-19 cases since March 11.

The Department of Helath and Social Services notes that a quality review of the long-term care case data resulted in additional cases being added to the total number of cases among long-term care residents.  DHSS also removed Delaware Psychiatric Center (DPC) data from the long-term care facility tally because it is an acute-care facility.  That move result in 3 deaths being dropped from the long-term care count.
