The Delaware Contemporary in Wilmington is one of many art institutions and museums closed since March by coronavirus pandemic.
The Delaware Contemporary is set to reopen Friday, June 12, 2020 on a limited basis.
“We are reopening Friday, June 12. We are all very excited. When the Governor had opened Phase 1 with the 30% capacity (June 1), we also wanted to make sure that we could manage the number of people coming through at selected hours that we felt would be the easiest for people to attend," said Delaware Contemporary executive director Leslie Schafer,
Shafer says for now, the Delaware Contemporary will be open Fridays from noon until 8 p.m. She notes the first two hours from noon until 2 p.m. will be for seniors and anyone with compromised immune systems only.
The Delaware Contemporary also plans Saturday and Sunday hours from noon to 5 p.m.
Shafer says various exhibits will be on display when the Museum reopens.
“So Ellen Priest who is a local painter; so her work will continue through the month of July for those people who had not had the chance to see that really amazing exhibition (that started when the Delaware Contemporary had to shut down because of COVID-19) will get to see her work in the main gallery,: said Shafer. "Cheryl Warrick, who is a Philadelphia painter - her work will be in the front space, which is our Beckler space.”
Shafer says there will also be a group exhibition showcasing the diversity of ideas, perspectives and artistic practices of the Museum's Studio Artist community.
She notes that everyone will have to wear a mask to enter the museum and social distancing is strongly encouraged.
The Delaware Contemporary hopes to resume regular hours by the opening of its fall season on in September.
