Delaware Choral Society performs Haydn's "The Creation" this weekend

Delaware Choral Society

The Delaware Choral Society (DCS) performs Haydn’s The Creation this Sunday at Dover High School.

The Creation is an oratorio written between 1797 and 1798 by Joseph Haydn. It’s considered by many to be his masterpiece.

It depicts and celebrates the creation of the world as described in the Book of Genesis.

The Choral Society’s executive director James Wilson says the 90 minute, 33- movement piece has a similar feel to Handel’s Messiah.

“It was written in the year 1800. And it’s an oratorio. And so this is a dramatic, sacred work for a chorus and orchestra and soloists. And so it’s similar to the Messiah in that sense; the Messiah is also an oratorio. And we did the Messiah last year,” said Wilson.

Tickets for this performance of The Creation are available here. The performance starts at 4 p.m.
