DEDO announces new entrepreneurship program

Delaware Economic Development Office

The Delaware Economic Development Office is starting a new program to help boost developing businesses in the state.

DEDO has partnered up with 1M/1M, a Silicon Valley-based organization devoted to supporting developing entrepreneurs. 1M/1M's mission is to help a million entrepreneurs reach at least a million dollars each in annual revenue, in hopes of contributing a trillion dollars in global GDP and ten million jobs by 2020.

The result is an online mentoring program that will provide participating business leaders resources for growing their respective companies. DEDO announced their first three participants, who come from Thank Tank, Watchful Eye Security and VituMob.

“To give them a virtual global resource with the credibility that 1M/1M has in the marketplace, gives them access to a significant set of mentoring online resources that will be hard for them to access while they’re working their full or part time jobs," said Ken Anderson, DEDO’s director of entrepreneurial and small business support.

DEDO selected their participants based on their innovative use of technology and their commitment to doing business in the First State.

But if they do well with the program, working with 1M/1M will help these businesses achieve greater exposure.

“If they’re declared fundable as a result of going through this year-long program,

they may get the opportunity to present to investors from all over the world and Silicon Valley," said Anderson.

DEDO plans on having more local entrepreneurs enroll in the program throughout the year. They’re currently taking applications on a rolling basis, with their next review scheduled for mid-January.
