DART is ready to kick off its 21st annual “Stuff the Bus” Thanksgiving Food Drive.

Each year, DART teams up with the Food Bank of Delaware for the “Stuff the Bus” Thanksgiving Food Drive.

This year’s drive runs from November 5th to 10th and DART marketing specialist Patty Boyd says the goal is to collect 20-tons of non-perishable food for Delawareans needing food assistance.

“We are literally filling up our transit buses. This year we’re starting out at the Acme in Rehoboth on Monday, November 5th and we’ll start packing it full of food. And the buses work their way up the state. And we end up, up in New Castle County on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday,” Boyd said.

Boyd notes seven “Stuff the Bus” collection sites will be available throughout the week.  And there are two new sites, the Safeway in Dover and ShopRite in Wilmington.

The 30-foot buses will show up at each site to accept contributions of canned goods and other non-perishable food items, pet food, and household products, such as laundry detergent.

Boyd says food products that are nutritious and rich in protein, like peanut butter and beans, are encouraged.

She says condiments like sugar, salt and mayo can also be dropped off.

Boyd adds sugary items, like candy and soda, are not accepted.

Boyd says last year three, 30-foot DART buses were stuffed with food from floor to ceiling. That translated into nearly 18-tons of food.
