The City of Seaford is looking for a new police chief.

Current Chief Robert Kracylainformed the city this week he is stepping down.

He submitted his resignation to City Manager Charles Anderson Monday after almost one year on the job.

“What he shared with us in his resignation letter was that he wanted to spend more time with his family. His family is predominantly located a little further upstate. And he desired to be able to put his work life back in order," Anderson said.

Anderson says Kracyla’slast day on the job will be March 1, 2019.

He adds the City has a plan to bridge the gap until a a new chief is found.

“We do have a leadership team at the City of Seaford; some great men and women at the police department. We will appoint an acting chief - as our first order of business - so they we have smooth continuity," said Anderson.“We are posting the advertisement and we’ll start the search for a new chief. And we will be looking for candidates, not only internally, but externally for a new chief to serve the City of Seaford.”

Anderson says a new chief could be on board as quickly as six to eight weeks.

Anderson says Kracylais a retired Delaware State policeman, holding that position for 27 years.

Anderson says in less than one year in the position officer visibility increased and he believes that led to the drop in Seaford’s crime numbers seen since Kracyla took over.

He adds officers also increased efforts to engage the community’s help in solving crimes via social media under Kracyla.
