Capital & Sussex Tech School Districts to get interim superintendents

Two Delaware school districts appointed interim/acting superintendents this week.

The Capital School Board voted unanimously Monday to have Sylvia Henderson fill the role previously held by Dan Shelton.  Shelton announced earlier this month he is leaving to become the Christina School District’s superintendent.

Henderson has been Capital’s assistant superintendent since 2015 and  officially takes the helm as interim superintendent on Wednesday, July 1, 2020.

Kevin Carson takes over as acting superintendent at Sussex Tech August 1, 2020.

He replaces Stephen Guthrie who announced earlier this month he is resigning - effective July 31st - for a family health matter.

“It was a very difficult decision to make, especially since I have enjoyed my experiences here and the warm acceptance and support I received from all of our school community,” Guthrie said. “I know the dedication and commitment of our staff and team will not waver or change, and our vocational technical school district will continue to serve Sussex County well.”

Carson previously served as superintendent in both the Woodbridge and Cape Henlopen School Districts.

He’s also been assistant superintendent at the Sussex Vo-Tech School District and interim superintendent of the Seaford School District.
